My first experience with this mat was amazing; it's fast and smooth, and has the least amount of friction on any mat I've ever used. Totally worth $60.
However, I started to notice significant slowdown in areas of the mat that I moused heavily in. Some research online showed comments from others expressing that the mat wears down PTFE mice feet fast, and the particles become embedded in the mat's surface, essentially ruining the speed. To test that, I ordered replacement PTFE feet (OEM, not 100% PTFE like HyperGlides or CorePads.)
After receiving the replacement feet, the pad is back to working as it did when it was new: Fast, smooth, incredible.
I don't know how long these new feet will last on the Acari, but even if they wear out faster than typical pads, I think it's worth it. The Acari's almost frictionless, it's awesome.
I've placed an order for a set of 100% PTFE feet and will keep them on hand for when the new set wears out. Until then, the Acari gets my vote as an excellent hard surface mat.
The typical plastic or teflon (PFTE) used for these feet will quickly wear off and into the microbead surface of this pad and effectively destroy it. I don't think there is any way to get the mouse foot material off without also destroying the oleophobic surface coating of the pad or otherwise voiding the manufacturers 1-year replacement warranty. Even though Razer doesn't specify this, which is a huge mistake on their part, this surface is meant for use with ceramic or other "hard" replacement mouse feet.
Secondly, this surface has extremely low friction, to the point where the slightest hand movement will be registered by the mouse. This is what it is designed for, and this is what it does, extremely well - too well.
What do I mean by that? This mouse pad is designed for extremely precise fine movements in competitive gaming. The lack of effectively any resistance to movement whatsoever from friction means that fine adjustments are effortless and large movements are as smooth as your hand is capable of. The downside of that is that simple tasks outside of games where you are used to having this friction become hilariously difficult. Pretty much any "click" in your operating system, for example, becomes a "click and drag" operation because that 1 or 2 micrometers your mouse moved when you left clicked registers as movement. This can make simple tasks frustrating.
This isn't a daily driver, this is the supercar that sucks to drive around town because every bump in the road may as well be a landmine. If you're buying it to take to the track (click heads) then it's fantastic, if you're buying this to do anything else, you may want to slow your roll a bit.

This was definitely one of those "little" upgrades that ended up making a surprisingly large difference!

Followed the manufacturer's recommendation on how to clean it : using a "soft wet cloth or cotton swab" (cotton swab, really?). Made no difference. Used IPA, nope, didn't change anything. Took a look at my mouse's skates, they were oddly worn for being so new. Bought new skates... Was a bit better but not perfect - I could still feel a huge difference in friction.
Fast forward to 1mo later (today, 2 months since new), friction is getting real bad AND my brand new skates are all worn off. Apparently everyone using PTFE skates have the same issues : the beaded surface chews through PTFE skates even though Razer says it's ok to use PTFE skates... On top of that, the PTFE rubs off and fills in the beads of the pad making the friction problem worse.
So this mat is not only using some sort of slippery coating that wears off... when it does wear off it chews trough mouse skates. Contacted Razer and they wouldn't hear anything about it... they did offer a replacement but seeing I'm not the only one with the issue, that would buy me another 2 months.
Contacted Amazon and chatted with an associate. After explaining the issue, they offered a full refund and I just need to ship it back.
Stay away from this one!
