His breakout role came with Top Gun (1986), which grossed $176 million at the box office worldwide and made him an international movie star. In 1988, he starred with Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture and earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Cruise's other films include Days of Thunder (1990), The Firm (1993), Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994), Mission: Impossible (1996), Jerry Maguire (1996), Eyes Wide Shut (1999), Vanilla Sky (2001), Minority Report (2002), The Last Samurai (2003) and Collateral Damage (2002). Cruise has won three Golden Globe Awards: two as best actor and one as producer of one of his films. On July 29, 2005, he married actress Katie Holmes; they have one child.
