The Red Hot Chilli Peppers are an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1983, the group has had its current lineup since 1988. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were formed in 1983 by Anthony Kiedis (vocals), Hillel Slovak (guitar), Michael "Flea" Balzary (bass) and Jack Irons (drums). They were originally called Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem, but after finding out that another band had a similar name they changed it to The Red Hot Chili Peppers. In 1984, they released their first album, "The Red Hot Chili Peppers". The album was not a big success so they disbanded only to reform again in 1987 with new guitarist John Frusciante. In 1988 they released their second studio album "Mother's Milk" which was also not a big success but still managed to get them more attention than their previous release.
