Lolita is a 1955 novel by Vladimir Nabokov. It tells the story of a middle-aged man's obsessive, devouring love for a twelve-year-old girl. The novel was controversial when first published; it has since been recognized as one of the twentieth century's greatest works of literature.
Lolita is a novel about a middle-aged man, Humbert Humbert, who becomes obsessed with the 12-year-old Dolores Haze. Humbert’s obsession with Lolita develops into a love as he tries to possess her. He becomes increasingly frustrated and desperate when she resists him and starts to date other men. The novel also gave rise to a large number of films, plays and songs that are loosely based on it or use themes from it.
